Katsuya Nagai 博士於 1967 年獲得大阪大學醫學院的醫學博士學位。 1972年畢業於大阪大學醫學研究生院蛋白質研究所。現任大阪大學名譽教授，日本大阪ANBAS公司總裁。他還是日本生物化學學會的理事和日本國際時間生物學學會的董事會成員。

Nagai 博士的主要研究領域包括自主神經參與穩態機制；哺乳動物晝夜節律鐘的分子機制；食物攝入和能量代謝的中央調節；和腦功能信號轉導的分子機制。他目前正在研究桑黃在人體生物化學中的作用，特別是桑黃對人體新陳代謝的影響。 Nagai 博士在英文科學和醫學期刊上發表了 200 多篇文章，其中 100 多篇是在過去的 20 年中發表的。
